Jaeger LeCoultre
Primarily sold by Jaeger-LeCoultre's American LeCoultre & Co. during the 1940s and 1950s.
With the American economic boom, the United States adopted a protectionist trade policy that imposed high tariffs on imported goods to protect the domestic watch industy. Imported goods became very expensive. In response The LeCoultre & Co. established an alliance in the United States and sold Jaeger-LeCoultre products under the LeCoultre name.
While the movements themselves are identical, due to tariffs in the United States at the time, gold-plated cases were more cost-effective than imported gold cases.
Therefore, most LeCoultre watches used gold-plated or gold-filled cases, which is not seen often in Jaeger-LeCoultre watches.
