On December 7, 1972 the last mission of NASA's Apollo program (Apollo 17) was launched. The caseback emblem represents the god Apollo and the American eagle with three stars for the three members of the Apollo 17 mission: Commander Eugene A. Cernan, Command Module Pilot Ronald E. Evans, and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison H. Schmitt. Apollo 17 was the sixth and last Apollo mission in which humans walked on the lunar surface.
